The organization develops software for Finnish municipalities and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), among others. Avoin&#8217;s goal is to enable individuals, municipalities, and businesses to use up-to-date, high-quality information that supports sustainable development in their daily lives, comprehensively taking into account the economy, health, and the environment.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The users of Avoin&#8217;s applications range from municipal planners to elementary school students. Planners can use the free <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.syke.fi\/hiilikartta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon Map application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, developed with the Finnish Environment Institute and the Natural Resources Institute Finland, to measure the climate impacts of planning and prevent deforestation. Elementary school students learn about the world&#8217;s forests and ecosystem services in the free and beautiful <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/forest-resources-assessment\/ForestKids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forest Kids<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mobile game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the development of Avoin&#8217;s software, we have interviewed groups of people whose needs are not usually heard in similar projects. In our development work, we have particularly sought to involve women, and we also employ software professionals from developing countries. Our professionally implemented applications aim to present research data in an accessible way. We also ensure during development that the application has the prerequisites to expand to international use.    <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAvoin Ry received a fundraising permit from the National Police Board in early 2024. Fundis is a convenient way for us to raise funds while we focus on software development.
